Podcast #40

MMM enters it's mature years with Podcast #40.

Listeners please be aware that this episode has a few segments that deal with adult themes and may not be suitable for younger listeners. We aren't describing the pictures from the Kama Sutra or anything, but it would be remiss of MMM not to point this out.

Podcast #40 delves into the darker side of film and tv with a Dear Desperates question on the thorny issue of censorship - is it good, is it bad, and just why do films need to be free?

Our Nether Regions segment looks at the 80s gore-fest from that master of controversy, Paul Verhoeven. Strap your big gun to your thigh and remember with us the 1987 classic, Robocop.

Now here is a game you can play at home - take a classic story from Doctor Who and try and see how it would fit into the new Doctor Who format - what stories would be ripe for the plucking in the RTD-era of Doctor Who? And the other side of the coin - take a new Doctor Who story and try and figure out where it would best fit into the classic era. What production team would tackle The Long Game for example? What season of Doctor Who would The Shakespeare Code have best fitted into? The MMM team offer our own thoughts on this interesting topic.

Make sure you stick around at the end of the show where we ask you for your help and advice on a few issues at MMM. How we release our commentaries and what things we should commentate on are just a few things we need your input on.

Settle back and enjoy our latest podcast.

Podcast #39

Yet another podcast packed to the rafters with so much incredible content - just how do we keep doing it?

Podcast #39 premieres a new segment exploring the archives of Doctor Who - we choose a different story each time to pick apart and discuss. This episode we talk about the final story of the Key to Time Season - Armageddon Factor.

The Dear Desperates tackle the question of spoilers - are they good, are they bad?

And our Nether Regions are probed once more as we look way, way back into the 80s with the time travel movie that made the DeLorean a household name - Back to the Future.

We attempt to Clear our Cobwebs and figure out just what would be a fitting end to the Doctor Who series, whenever that time comes.

Thrown into that talk about Spiderman 3, general chit-chat, mayhem and unrehearsed hilarity, and MMM is proud to present for your downloading pleasure, Podcast #39.

Podcast #38

Podcast #38 will take you to the weird and wonderful places that you can only experience when comforted by the warm glow of the television screen, or buffeted by the quadrophonic sound experience of your local cinema. The team has been scouring the television and film universe to bring you a podcast to delight all of your senses (well, except perhaps touch).

Across the Oeuvre, where we look at a subject, concept or series is back again and exploring everybody's favourite hairy ape - King Kong. Come and learn about giant mechanical hands, artificial hearts, albino monkeys and much much more!

In our Dear Desperates, where we solve problems posed by our listeners, we look at the perplexing problem of multi-Doctor Doctor Who stories - should they do more, how should they be done and are they a good thing or not?

Just when you thought MMM couldn't find anything more to talk about in the Star Wars Universe, we find something! In the days before video cassette, a whole generation of fans enjoyed the Star Wars Radio Series, while they passed the time until the next film came out. The team takes you on a walk down memory lane with our thoughts and reminisces on this oft forgotten series of radio adaptations.

And we go all the way to the moon to bring you back a Nether Region on the fondly remembered series about that runaway satellite - Space 1999.

But you just know there is some more stuff in this episode we haven't told you about, don't you? Go on, dive in, the waters warm!

Podcast #37

In this episode we look at a classic film starring the icon of cinema, Mr Charlton Heston. We get to the bottom of exactly what is Soylent Green?

The Dear Desperates tackle the question of just what are the sci-fi eggs that have been laid in our cinemas over the years - just not failures, but ones that had so much money thrown at them but still smell decidely off.

Our regular look at Doctor Who producers continues with the MMM team's take on early Doctor Who producer Innes Lloyd.

And you all know we have packed even more than this into Podcast #37. Why don't you download it and have a listen?

Podcast #36

You thought we had forgotten how to do podcasts, didn't you? Not a bit of it! The MMM Team are back into podcast mode with a vengeance. It's a podcast so big, so tremendously amazing that we had trouble containing its grandeur to 85 minutes!

In this episode we conclude our exhaustive look at the era of Doctor Who producer John Nathan-Turner and cast new light on the final years of his reign over the longest running sci-fi series in the world.

The Desperates are quizzed with a question on Quantum Leap compared to Doctor Who? What lessons could the new series of Doctor Who learn from this 80s American classic?

Our Nether Regions are tapped with a look at a film which has it all - invisible monsters, bootlegging cooks, Mr Naked Gun Leslie Neilsen and some seriously nice totty - Forbidden Planet.

And where would we be without lists? David gives us his personal insight into the world of DVD commentaries with his list of the 10 Worst Types of DVD Commentaries. See if you can recognise any of them or even add to the list!

The team also has a look at the first three episodes from the new series of Doctor Who - Smith and Jones, The Shakespeare Code and Gridlock.

And there is more, don't you worry about that! Special guest Anthony joins in the podcast mayhem and offers his unique insights for this episode.

Starship Sofa Podcast - HG Wells

Something a little bit different from MMM this week - our collabration with the genuises over at Starship Sofa on the works of arguably the grandfather of science fiction as we know it - Mr HG Wells.

This episode is hosted by Ciaran and Tony from Starship Sofa, and they will guide you through the history of Mr Wells in the printed word.

Starship Sofa is a podcast dedicated to diseccting the works of great sci-fi authors - past episodes have covered such gods as Douglas Adams, Harlan Ellison, Roger Zelany and L Ron Hubbard. If the good listeners of MMM have even a passing interest in learning more about sci-fi authors then we here at the MMM Caravan heartily recommend giving them a listen. And don't forget to tell 'em we said hi!

On April 5 MMM will provide our contribution to the HG Wells saga - we take a look at his works as they have been adapted for stage, radio, screen and tv. We hope you can join us then.

In the meantime, we leave you in the capable hands of Ciaran and Tony from Starship Sofa!

Podcast #32

The name's Spielberg. Steven Spielberg. There are few celebrities who have had such an influence over what we see at the movies. Whether it be behind the bullhorn directing such classics as Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, or Saving Private Ryan, or helping bring to realisation Men in Black , Gremlins and Back to the Future.

In this very special episode of the MMM Podcast, we devote it to exploring the Oeuvre of Mr Steven Spielberg.

Podcast #31

After an in-depth discussion on the recently released Superman DVD mega-release, we get into the rest of our podcast with our Clear our Cobwebs that will be very familiar to those amongst us who constantly search for the best DVDs. Just what is the deal with region coding, differing content on releases, and the whole studio conspiracy.

Our Dear Desperates question looks at the age old question of just what is the most influential tv and film out there? Just what has had the most impact both in popularising the genre and being influential to future film-makers?

The Princess Bride comes under the piercing gaze of the MMM Team in our popular Nether Regions segment. Find out why this film has become the cult classic it is today.

Podcast 31 has the first part of our in-depth look at John Nathan-Turner, the most prolific and longest serving Doctor Who producer. In this part we look at the first two seasons of JNT's reign - the end of Tom Baker and the emergence of a brand new Doctor, Peter Davison.

All this, and yes, you guessed it, much, much more in Podcast #31.
